COSTA
BLANCA CLIMATE
The Costa
Blanca has one of the healthiest climates in Europe. The
temperature can fluctuate greatly due to the mountains
where the weather can change very quickly from valley to
valley though the mountains also protect the coast
making the sea warm enough to swim in even in the winter
months.
December,
January and February are normally the coldest months
with mixtures of cold nights and enough rainfall to
water plants for almost an entire year. Winter days can
be very pleasant however and t-shirts and shorts can be
the norm during daylight hours and long pants and light
jackets for the evening. The weather really starts to warm up during march time
where temperatures in the 60’s can compliment beautiful
spring days.
Between April and May the temperature rises
once more as the nights get a little longer. June really
starts to see things hot up as the tourist resorts start
to fill up with holidaymakers searching for the sun that
they have not really seen in other parts of Europe since
last September.
With very hot summers in July and August you will find
that many Spanish prefer to go north where it is a
little cooler. These are the hottest months and will see
the peak of the holiday season with many hotels packed
to bursting and the beaches full to capacity. Many
tourists try and avoid this season. Not just because of
the climate but simply to avoid the crowds.
September on
the Costa Blanca will see temperatures drop slightly and
more cloudy days become more regular. It is still a very
comfortable time to to visit with temperatures in the
early to late 70’s. This has to be one of the best times
to visit the Costa Blanca with refreshing sea breezes
cooling the warm air providing a very pleasant climatic
experience. September also brings with it some
magnificent sunrise and sunset views with a breathtaking
array of light and colour.
October will see the temperature decreasing once more
and you may notice a little chill in the air and morning
dew on the fresh grass. You may still get the hotter
days but a little more cloud and wind are very common
and a little evening chill will enable you to sleep very
soundly.
November and December can be a real climatic mixture on
the Costa Blanca. Don’t be surprised to be swimming in
the warm Mediterranean sea one day and huddling in a bar
drinking hot chocolate the next. With the odd heavy rainy day
and warm to cool breezes the weather is very
unpredictable at the best of times.
Recent
weather reports have shown that the Costa Blanca is
getting hotter with experts predicting more arid and dry
summers and milder winters with erratic rainfall.
Temperatures are already reaching 45% in the summer and
this is due to the fact that Spain has a very close
proximity to Africa meaning it is getting hotter much
quicker than other parts of Europe.
